Novelis

Novelis Inc. is a global company for aluminum rolled products, with headquarters in Atlanta.

Novelis Inc. applies with 13,500 employees at 38 locations as the world's largest producer of aluminum rolled products. The products of Novelis Inc. are mainly semi-finished and intermediate products, customers are therefore not final consumers, but industry and crafts.

Development

Novelis Inc. was founded in 2005, but has already existed as a division of Alcan Rolled Products. These activities were spun off and merged in the new company Novelis. Novelis Inc. is actually a Canadian company, but the business is run from Atlanta.

The spin-off of Novelis Inc., Alcan helped, among other things, to meet demands of American and European antitrust authorities. Thus, the European Commission was the spin-off of the German plants Göttingen, Neuss -Norf and Nachterstedt promised to allay concerns about Alcan's power position in the aluminum industry after the acquisition of Pechiney and Alusuisse.

In February 2007 it was announced that the Indian aluminum and copper producer Hindalco Industries has submitted with its headquarters in Mumbai a takeover bid for Novelis in the amount of $ 6 billion. The Board of Directors has approved the Novelis. The acquisition is expected, following approval by the antitrust authorities to close in the second quarter of 2007. The acquisition of Novelis, Hindalco is the world's largest supplier of aluminum rolled products.

The acquisition was completed on 15 May 2007.
