The founded in 1984 by Brad Mattson company now employs 3,698 staff (August 2008). Locations of the company are located in Tualatin, Oregon and San Jose, California.

Novellus Systems deals with the development, manufacture and sale of production that are used for the manufacture of integrated circuits (ICs ) and other semiconductor products. Among these are mainly coating systems for the chemical (CVD) and physical vapor deposition ( PVD), especially HDP - CVD and PECVD systems, as well as electroplating (ECD). The company is in direct competition with other plant manufacturers such as Applied Materials and Lam Research.

In addition to semiconductor products is part of the company and the Industrial Application Group that deals with machine tool industry and the German company Peter Wolters GmbH belongs.
