Novillars
Novillars is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.
Geography
Novillars is located at 255 m, about 9 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Doubs Valley on the right the north side of the river, on the northwestern edge of the Jura, at the northern foot of the Côte.
The area of 2.02 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, which flows here through an approximately 1.5 kilometers wide, flat Talniederung to the west and at the same time forms the waterways of the Rhine- Rhône canal. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the wide flood plain and a 50 to 80 m high ground level up to the adjacent plateau. This averages to 330 m and is surrounded by a vast forest ( Bois de Ban ) covered. With 335 m find the highest mountains of Novillars is achieved.
Neighboring communities of Novillars are Amagney in the north, Vaire -le- Petit in the east, Vaire - Arcier in the south and Roche- lez -Beaupré in the West.
History
The Château de Novillars was founded in 1250 by a side branch of the lords of Cicon. Under the name Novillus the village was first mentioned in 1256. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. An economic development experienced Novillars 1883 with the opening of the pulp mill, the temporarily employed more than 600 workers.
Attractions
The village church of Novillars was built in the 18th century. The castle was rebuilt in 1685 under the family Jouffroy.
Population
With 1515 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Novillars one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. A particularly strong population growth experienced the village at the beginning of the 1970s, after the hospital center ( Psychiatric Hospital ) was opened. During this time, the population has tripled. This was followed by a slow decline. A rising trend in population was recorded again only in recent years. The settlement area of Novillars is now conjoined with that of Roche- lez -Beaupré.
Economy and infrastructure
Novillars has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The industrialization took place in the 1880s with the construction of a pulp mill. Since the 1970s, on the outskirts, a commercial and industrial zone developed. Today, the paper mill are ( successor to the former pulp mill ) and the hospital center, the main employer of Novillars. In addition, there are various enterprises of retail trade. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the agglomeration Besançon their work.
The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N83, which runs from Besançon to Montbéliard. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 8 km. Another road connection with Amagney. Novillars has a station on the railway line Dole - Besançon - Belfort.
