Novillars

Novillars is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Novillars is located at 255 m, about 9 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Doubs Valley on the right the north side of the river, on the northwestern edge of the Jura, at the northern foot of the Côte.

The area of ​​2.02 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, which flows here through an approximately 1.5 kilometers wide, flat Talniederung to the west and at the same time forms the waterways of the Rhine- Rhône canal. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the wide flood plain and a 50 to 80 m high ground level up to the adjacent plateau. History

The Château de Novillars was founded in 1250 by a side branch of the lords of Cicon. Under the name Novillus the village was first mentioned in 1256. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. An economic development experienced Novillars 1883 with the opening of the pulp mill, the temporarily employed more than 600 workers.

Population

With 1515 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Novillars one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs.
