Novo Sarajevo

Novo Sarajevo (Serbian Cyrillic - Ново Сарајево ) is one of the nine municipalities of the Canton of Sarajevo and one of the four municipalities of Sarajevo. It borders the municipalities Centar, Novi Grad and Vogošća. The area of ​​the municipality is 11.43 km ². Novo Sarajevo has nearly 69,000 inhabitants.

History

Before the Bosnian War, the municipality had an area of ​​47.15 km ² and 95,089 inhabitants. After population, becoming one of the largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Around 40% of people were employed in industrial plants. Since the siege of Sarajevo, the economy was on the ground. Ten years after the Dayton Agreement was started in the municipality with the restructuring of the economy, the reconstruction of the destroyed plants and privatization.

The municipality of Novo Sarajevo consists of the following settlement parts: Pofalici I Pofalici II, Velešići, Gornji Velešići, Željeznička, Dolac, Malta, Čengić Vila I, Kvadrant, Čengić Vila II, Hrasno, Hrasno Brdo, Trg Heroja, Grbavica I, Grbavica II, Kovačići and Gornji Kovačići.

After the signing of the Dayton Agreement, the smaller part of the municipality Novo Sarajevo came to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the larger area now belongs as part Istocno Novo Sarajevo Republika Srpska.

Population

At the 1991 census, the municipality had 95 089 inhabitants.
