Novokuybyshevsk

Nowokuibyschewsk (Russian Новокуйбышевск ) is a large city with 108 438 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in Russia, Samara Oblast. Occasionally, unofficially also the name of Novaya Samara is (Russian Новая Самара ) used.

Geography

Nowokuibyschewsk located in Central Russia, near the left bank of the Volga River and about 20 km southwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Samara. Together with eight smaller villages (two villages and six villages ) is the actual city Nowokuibyschewsk the territorial unity " independent city Nowokuibyschewsk " (Russian Городской округ Новокуйбышевск ).

The closest cities are Samara and is 18 km south west of Nowokuibyschewsk Chapayevsk.

History

Nowokuibyschewsk was founded as an industrial center and housing development for the neighboring Samara, which was then called by the politician Valerian Kuibyshev Kuibyshev (Russian Куйбышев ). The beginnings of the town date back to the year 1946 when it was started with the construction of Nowokuibyschewer oil refinery. Originally planned as a small housing estate, the site continues to grow due to its easily accessible location. In 1952, he was then awarded city rights, exceeding the mid- 1960s, the city mark of 100,000 inhabitants. In 1992 the settlement Mayak (Russian Маяк ) was incorporated into Nowokuibyschewsk.

Economy and Transport

Nowokuibyschewsk is an industrial city, in petroleum refining and chemical industries play the most important role in the economy. In addition, there is a section of the pipeline factory, two thermal power stations and several companies in the field of light and food industries.
