Nowitna River

Meandering lower reaches of the Nowitna River, just before it flows into the Yukon River
It lies largely in the nature reserve Nowitna National Wildlife Refuge. The Nowitna is a quietly flowing, highly meandering river.
Inflows are Titna River, Big Mud River with its tributary Grand Creek, Little Mud River, Lost River and Sulatna River.
The name of the original inhabitants of the river often regional " Novi " is specified. An expedition of the Western Union Telegraph Company in 1867 reported by the term " Newicargut ", where the suffix means " cargut " estuary.
Since 1980, the lower 357 km of the Nowitna River as a National Wild and Scenic River are protected.
