Nowruz (oil field)

The Nowruz oil field is an offshore oil field in the Persian Gulf. It was discovered in 1966 and is located 93 km north-west of belonging to Iran Kharg Island. About 53 km away is the Soroush oil field.

In 1983, against the backdrop of the first Gulf War, there was one of the largest oil spills around the world. On February 10, 1983, a tanker collided with an oil platform. In March 1983 Iranian helicopters shelled the oil platform.
