NS Class 6400

The NS - 6400 is a diesel- electric locomotive of the Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK ) for the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) was built. The wheel arrangement is Bo'Bo '.

History

The building had been advertised throughout Europe, the consortium BBC / MaK won the tender. The construction is based on the MaK DE 1002 6400 series has a longer length and a higher speed. Identical locomotives, but with derated to 950 kW engine power were later sold under the name MaK DE 1004 to Euro Tunnel.

They were the first Dutch locomotives with three-phase motors. Up to four locomotives can be run together in multiple traction.

After the splitting of the NS all locomotives came to NS Cargo, later Railion Nederland, where they retained their number. Some locomotives were repainted in the sequence in red, with other large red stickers were on the cabs fitted with the new feature of the property and the operation number. A number of locomotives has to the appropriate safety devices to drive in Belgium and Germany. They carry the nickname Vlaamse Reuzen and Duitse Herder.

Since the beginning of 2007 Railion Germany sat loan up to twenty locomotives in Germany as the class 264. These numbers are however carried out internally, from the current four -digit numbers will be written on the vehicles. Due to the decline in freight traffic this use in 2009 was terminated.

In 2007, 22 locomotives equipped with the ETCS automatic Bombardier. General contractor for the design and approval of the modified vehicles was Lloyd 's Register Rail Europe. Two prototypes ( 6434 and 6442 ) were on test drives in the Netherlands and Germany on the go, including on the Betuweroute since mid-2007. The series rebuild the other 20 vehicles began in November 2007 and was carried out by Bombardier in Randers, Denmark. For operation with the national train control systems ATB -EG in the Netherlands and in Germany PZB these vehicles were equipped with specific transmission module (STM). Thus, on the Driver Machine Interface ( DMI, a display in the driver's desk ) each new ads for ATB -EG, PZB or ETCS displayed - need for separate control and display facilities for the three different signal systems. A confirmation PZB - ride for the Germany - approval took place on 23 October 2007 Lok 6442 held between Emmerich and Oberhausen. This locomotive ran from October 29, 2007, a 5000 km service testing under the direction of RBH Logistics between Hamm and Rheinkamp.

On 28 May 2009 locomotive 6427 made ​​several successful test runs with ETCS STM- ATB and STM- PZB on the track Zevenaar - Emmerich.

On 3 November 2010 Euro Tunnel announced the purchase of two machines as a tunnel rescue locomotives.

The approval for Germany was lifted in April 2011, the cross-border use between Wülfrath - Rohdenhaus and Beverwijk was no longer possible.
