The ICM ( Intercitymaterieel ) of the NS series is an electric railcar from the years 1977 to 1994 for intercity traffic. With a total of 144 units built, it is still the backbone of the rapid transit within the Netherlands dar.

History

It was developed as part of the ICM " Plan Z " for the modernization of the rolling stock of the NS. Talbot in Aachen in 1977 produced seven prototypes of a three-piece railcar for fast, comfortable intercity traffic. First they came on the relation Eindhoven -Venlo used, then they drove between Amsterdam and Nijmegen. Subsequently they were called ICM -0. 2003, they were z- placed. 1983 began series production of the type now as ICM -1 indicated. Compared to the prototype it has numerous improvements (for example, an improved ventilation of the passenger compartment ). From No. 4051 chopper controls were installed, and the type designation changed to ICM -2.

As of 1990, the (previously three-part ) ICM were delivered as four-part series (series ICM 3 and ICM -4) with magnetic track brakes.

Modernization

Between 2006 and 2011, the ICM - series trains were 4011-4097 and 4201-4250 successively modernized: The characteristic transitions were no longer used since 2005 to save maintenance costs and reduce the delay susceptibility, and therefore verblecht. The interior has been completely renovated, upgraded air conditioning and passenger information displays as well as increasing the number of seats by 13%.

Use

The ICMs are used primarily as an intercity trains on different relations throughout the Netherlands, rarer than Stoptrein ( regional train) in the rush hour and even as the overnight train between Utrecht and Rotterdam.
