NSB Class 30

The Norwegian steam locomotive class NSB type 30 was 1914-1939 of Thunes Mekaniske verksted and Norsk Industri Maskin (NMI ) for the Norges Statsbaner ( NSB), the national railway company in Norway built.

History

The NSB 30 was designed as an express locomotive. Their field of application extended over the whole country. Occasionally it was also used for the carriage of freight trains.

Type 30a

Between 1914 and 1919 a total of 18 locomotives of the type 30a in the design 2'C - 2'2 ' h4 were as a four- cylinder engine of Thunes Mekaniske verksted delivered to the NSB.

Type 30b

From 1920 deliveries of the type 30b started now as a four -cylinder compound locomotive of the type 2'C - 2'2 ' h4v, by Norsk Industri Maskin. This was a collaboration of Thunes Mekaniske verksted with Hamar Jernstøberi, the two largest Norwegian Locomotive manufacturers of Norway at the time. After the two locomotives followed the end of 1920 delivered 21 pieces from January to August 1921.

Type 30c

Almost 20 years later, in 1938 and 1939, were of Thunes verksted Mekaniske again four type locomotives 2'C - 2'2 ' h4v restocked. They owned over the 30b has a higher boiler pressure of 16 kgf/cm2 and an enlarged tender which allowed the carrying of more inventories.

Use and whereabouts

After the Second World War, the locomotives were on many routes in passenger use, so on the Vossebane (up to 1949), on the Vestfoldbane ( 1949-1957 ), on the Sørlandsbane ( Sira / Egersund - Stavanger to 1956 ), on the Gjøvikbane ( to 1963 ), on the Dovrebane (up to 1965), on the Nordlandsbane (up to 1957), on the Kragerøbane ( 1956-1969 ), on the Valdresbane ( 1967-1968 ), on the Randsfjordbane (up to 1959), on the Rørosbane (1964 - 1969) and on the Raumabane (up to 1958). On several locomotives were also used for the carriage of freight trains.

The last locomotive of type 30c, 30c 466, was retired on October 15, 1969. 30a and 30b 271 362 were the last active locomotives throughout the series, their use ended on 9 November 1970. 30a 271 is obtained and the Norsk Jernbaneklubb ( NJK ) in use. You covered there museum trains.
