NSÍ Runavík

NSÍ Runavík, full name Nes Sóknar Ítrottarfelag ( " sports club in the municipality of Nes " ), NSÍ abbreviated, is a Faroese football and handball club based in Runavík on the island Eysturoy.

History

The NSÍ was founded on Sunday 24 March 1957, when the first sports club on the east bank of the Skálafjørður. The name NSÍ was maintained, when the community was divided into two municipalities, Runavík and Nes. The first Board consisted of the Chairman Niklas Foldbo, Vice Ib Haurits, Treasurer Johanna Jacobsen and Secretary Jastrid á Roykheyggi.

Ib Haurits was the most distinguished founding father. He was a baker from Tvøroyri and the only one on the board who had experience with organized sports. Primarily Haurits knew from handball, thus NSÍ was first known for his handball team, which bore the name Tjaldur ( " Oystercatcher ", national bird of the Faroe Islands ).

From 1960, other sports were added, such as badminton. NSÍ was successfully active in rowing and in 1962 succeeded to all boats of the club to win the regatta Vestanstevna.

1972 a football field was put into operation in Runavík and already in the following year, the boys team won the second place in the final of the Junior Cup, the first football award for NSÍ.

Later, a gymnasium was added and the football field við Løkin got an artificial turf.

The rowers were in 1998 as Kappróðrarfelagið NSÍ independently and also the handball founded in the same year Hondbóltsfelagið Tjaldur.

With more than 600 members, the NSÍ one of the biggest sports clubs in the Faroe Islands. In addition to the many assets of the club thrives on the voluntary work of many helpers. There is a development association and the fan club Guliganz.

Women's Soccer

The women's team of NSÍ was one of the founding members of the first Deild, finished 1985 in group B, however, only the fifth place and thus rose from. On their return in 1988 succeeded yet as Penultimate relegation that season but it was completed with zero points. 1995 again the last place was achieved in the first division, 1998, the second to last, then withdrew the team. Also in 2000, NSÍ could keep only one year in the first division. 2006 Although the relegation in the relegation play was avoided, however, renounced the team in 2007 to further participation and withdrew again. From 2008, the club competed in a lottery syndicate with B68 Toftir and managed in the first season in third place promotion to the first division.

Handball

Under the name Tjaldur was the handball section of NSÍ Runavík, which seceded on 29 October 1998 from the main club, first successes in recent years, in 2009 won the ladies their first championship, but the cup final went with 23:25 against Stjørnan Klaksvík lost. 2011 succeeded the rematch with a 26:22 victory. 2012 the team finished in the first division but only the last place, the men occupied in Group 2 of the third league in fourth place.
