Nubian people

The Nubians are today partly strongly mixed with Arab and black African ethnic groups Nilo- saharanisch - speaking people in what is now Sudan and southern Egypt.

Even in prehistoric times can be detected Nubian cultures. Differences are the A and C group. The ancient Egyptian name of the country south of the first cataract ( near Aswan ) is Kush. Nubia was a major source of gold, ivory, furs and slaves, and therefore always a target for expansion of Pharaonic Egypt.

The development of the A- Group culture surpassed even the phases of prehistoric Egypt. The expansion of the Egyptian Naqada culture finally sat the A- Group culture to a violent end.

The 25th dynasty is known as Cushites ( = Nubierdynastie ). Taharqa was the fifth pharaoh of the Nubian dynasty and ruled 690-664 BC He led Egypt to economic and cultural prosperity. In 669 BC he defeated the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal. Was succeeded by his son Tanotamun, who ruled until 663 BC. He was the last "Black Pharaoh ".

In the army and police as the Nubians played a major role at all times. Especially feared was their archers, who played an important role in the conquest of Egypt. The Nubian language belongs to the Nilo-Saharan languages.

Nubians in the narrower sense ( Nubia) were the first time around the birth of Christ by Strabo, who calls Eratosthenes as informant, mentioned and described as north-west of the Nile from Meroe alive.
