Nuccio Bertone

Giuseppe " Nuccio " Bertone ( born July 4, 1914 in Turin, † February 26, 1997 ) was an Italian automobile designer and car designer.

Life

After he had completed an apprenticeship as an accountant, he got 1934 in 1912, founded by his father Giovanni Bertone Carrozzeria Bertone in Turin bodywork Company SpA, which he also led after the Second World War. During his time at Bertone many production vehicles and sometimes spectacular prototypes known car manufacturers who contributed his artistic style emerged. Even for longtime friend Ferruccio Lamborghini, he created numerous masterpieces, such as a Spider version of the Lamborghini Miura. Under his leadership, the group expanded considerably and gained international notoriety.

" Nuccio " took incidentally also to car racing and won in 1953 with a self-developed Barchetta based on the Fiat 500 Topolino, the Italian championship. In 1953, he took third place with a Ferrari in the Mille Miglia.

In 1966 he married Ermelinda Bertone, called " Lilli", the head of the group of companies since his death. The two emerged from the marriage of daughters Marie -Jeanne and Barbara work in house, Bertone, Marie -Jeanne as Vice President of the Design Center Stile Bertone and Barbara in the Carrozzeria Bertone.

In 1989, " Nuccio " the honorary doctoral degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (California ) and recently he was nominated for the title of " Car Designer of the Century". In 2006 he was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in Detroit by a plate with his engraved signature.
