Nuclear Energy Agency

The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA ) is a semi - autonomous body within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development ( OECD) to promote a safe, environmentally friendly and economical use of nuclear energy. It has its headquarters in Paris.

The NEA was founded on 20 December 1957 a Council of Ministers decision as European Nuclear Energy Agency, designed to combine the scientific and financial resources of the Western European countries with a view to a joint nuclear research program. On February 1, 1958 its constitution came into force, and they took the same month their activities on. Today, the NEA consists of 27 countries on four continents, in which 85 percent of the world's existing nuclear facilities are located. The NEA based in Paris employs 80 engineers and scientists and has an annual budget of 16 million U.S. dollars.
