Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Aguada, Montevideo

The Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Carmen is a building in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo.

The 1891 inaugurated Catholic Church building is located in Barrio La Aguada on Avenida Libertador Gral Brig. Juan A. Lavalleja, corner Venezuela. As an architect Emilio Turini responsible. In 1930, the present facade design under the direction of architect E. Boix and H. Terra Arocena was prepared. The Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Carmen was the seat of the Asamblea Nacional Constituyente primer, the first Constituent National Assembly.

Since 1975, the building is classified as Monumento Histórico Nacional.
