NuGeneration

NuGeneration ( NuGen ) is a company that plans to build a new nuclear power plant at the Sellafield site in the UK.

NuGen was founded in February 2009 as a joint venture between GDF Suez, Iberdrola and Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE ). (GDF Suez and Iberdrola 37.5 %, SSE 25 % of the shares).

To want the company announced plans to a nuclear power plant with a total capacity of up to 3,600 MW ( = 3.6 GW) build. That would be a nuclear power plant with multiple blocks (1 block = 1 nuclear reactor, for example, three blocks of 1200 MW).

In October 2009, NuGen bought for 70 million British pounds an option to purchase land at Sellafield. Seller of the option was the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. NuGen announced its intention to make the final investment decision in 2015 and possibly 2023 will begin with the production of electricity.

The company is (as of 2010 ) led by Alfio Vidal ( Iberdrola ) ( "chief nuclear director" ) and Olivier Carret (GDF Suez ) (COO = chief operating officer ).

In September 2011 ( six months after the start of the Fukushima nuclear disaster ) shared with SSE to leave the consortium and its shares for sale split equally between GDF Suez and Iberdrola.
