Nui (atoll)

Nui is one of the nine districts of the constitutional monarchy Tuvalu. It also represents an atoll in the archipelago dar. to the 2002 census, the atoll had 548 inhabitants.

Geography

Nui consists of at least 21 small islands, this includes Fenua Tapu, Meang, Motupuakaka, Pakantou, Piliaieve, Pongalei, Talalolae, Tokinivae, Unimai and at least twelve other, which together cover an area of 2.83 km ². The total area of the atoll is 17 km ², most of which is attributable to the reef and a small portion of the lagoon, and where the land area of ​​the islands is included.

The largest island is Fenua Tapu, followed by Meang, Tokinivae, Pongalei, Talalolae, Pakantou, Unimai, Piliaieve and Motupuakaka. Fenua Tapu is the only inhabited island of the atoll, with the villages Tanrake ( capital ) and Fenua Tapu.

Language and Culture

The Nuier are Micronesians. They talk Kiribati. They therefore differ from the other inhabitants of Tuvalu, which are all Polynesians and speak Tuvaluan.
