Nulka

In Nulka (also: Mk -53 ) is a system for electronic warfare. It is produced by the British company BAE Systems and was developed in a joint project between the United States and Australia.

Description

Essentially, it is at Nulka a bait that has its own radar signature active enlarged with a special system to radar -guided anti-ship missiles so (eg AGM -84 Harpoon or Exocet ) to divert attention from their own ships. A special feature of the system is the flight control. The tubular missile floats through a precisely controlled solid engine with thrust vector control only a few meters above the water surface and can also perform pre-programmed flight maneuvers, which are adapted to the nature of the threat. The entire system is fully automatic and requires only a few data from the launch platform, so that the response times be very low.

The missile can (53 Mk) be fired even with a modified SRBOC starter, which greatly simplifies the integration of the Nulka system. By July 2006, a total 400 million U.S. dollars have been invested in the entire program. In November 2008, the 100th Nulka system was installed in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Higgins. Up to this point, about 800 decoys were delivered to the participating States. Currently (September 2009) is considering the U.S. Navy and its aircraft carrier of the Nimitz class with Nulka - decoys equip.
