Nullagine River

The Nullagine River is a river in the north-west of the Australian state of Western Australia. It is located in the Pilbara region.

Geography

The river rises south of the settlement Bonney Downs on the northern slopes of the Chichester Range. From there it flows north along the Marble Bar Road, which he crossed at the small town of Nullagine. Next his way in a northerly direction under the Rippon Hills Road will take him through to the settlement Warrawagine the confluence with the Oakover River southeast of the settlement Callawa. With the Oakover River, it forms the De Grey River.

In the rainy season the Nullagine River occurs regularly overflowed its banks and can make the roads in the area impassable.

Origin of the name

The name of the river and the small town on its banks is derived from a word of the language of the local Aborigines, which was recorded in the 1880s as Ngullagine. The meaning of this word is not known.
