Numfor Paradise Kingfisher

The Numforliest ( Tanysiptera carolinae ) is only Numfor, a small Indonesian island north of West New Guinea, occurring kingfisher. There he lived in forests and open landscapes.

Features

The plumage is colored blue-purple on the head, body and wings with the apex of the brightest and the wings on the scapulars and the shield springs are almost black. The lower back, the trunk and the under tail-coverts are white, however. The approximately 10 cm long white tail has extended center springs, with a 12 cm long, dark blue bare stem and white ends. The 4 cm long beak is scarlet, his eyes are dark brown, feet and legs olive - brown.

The young bird is colored blue-purple on the head and the top. The torso and upper tail-coverts are white with washed-out reds and weak black dashes; the tail is blackish with white dashes. Chin and throat are cinnamon, breaking and belly are slightly reddish, with scattered black and purple feathers. The undertail coverts are white.

Behavior

The bird feeds on grasshoppers, beetles and snails.

Little else is known about the behavior and breeding business.
