Numico

Numico ( hook size: Koninkliijke Numico NV, Royal Numico NV ) was a specialist on baby and clinical nutrition company, which was acquired by Danone in 2007. The company's headquarters was located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 2004, approximately 11,230 employees work in the company, in 2006 there were 12,500. 2006 sales of € 2.644 billion was achieved.

Numico had four divisions:

  • Baby food
  • Clinical nutrition and drinking Nutritional supplements
  • Entwicklungs-/Forschungsbereich

The main brands are Nutricia, Cow & Gate, Milupa, Mellin, Dumex, Primmer and SHS. The beginning of 2009 the SHS brand was merged with Primmer and integrated into the health care sector.

History

The origins of the company date back to the year 1896 as Martinus van der Hagen in Zoetermeer got the right baby formula based on cow's milk to produce. Nine years later, the Nutricia Dairy has already been exported product mentioned. 1981, the Group acquired the company Cow & Gate, a company which mainly produced baby food for the UK and Ireland. An important assumption in the field of hospital diet was that of Primmer in the year 1991. 1995 followed by the acquisition of Milupa and SHS. In the same year the Numico Group started in the markets of the former socialist countries to enter. For the brands Bebilon / Bobovita for Poland and Malyutka / Malyshka were established for Russia. With the acquisition of control of the Indonesian companies Sari Husada SGM brand is one of Numico. 2004 saw the acquisition of Finnish brands Tutteli and Muksu and the following year the Italian brand Mellin. In July 2007, Danone issued a tender offer and controlled the end of 2007, 98.4 % of Numico shares. The company's shares were taken from the stock market. Meanwhile Numico is fully integrated into the divisions baby food and Clinical Nutrition, Danone and continues with the brands Milupa and Nutricia.
