Nuno Delgado

Nuno Miguel Delgado ( born August 27, 1976 in Santarém, Portugal ) is a former Portuguese judoka. In 2000, he became the first Portuguese an Olympic medal in judo.

Career

Delgado began in the weight category up to 78 kg, in this class he took in 1996 to fifth place at the Junior European Championships in 1997 and won his first Portuguese league title. In 1998 he launched after the reorganization of weight classes in the class up to 81 kg. In 1998 he was re- Portuguese champion, at the Universiade he finished in third place. In 1999, he won the European Championship in May in Bratislava; in October he finished fifth at the World Championships. In November 1999, he won his third Portuguese title. 2000 Delgado finished the World Cup tournament in Rome the second place, a week after he was third in Rotterdam. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, he lost the battle for the finals against the South Koreans Cho In - Chul; in the fight for the bronze medal he won against Alvaro Peseyro from Uruguay, in the sixth battle, it was fourth Delgado's victory by ippon. 2001 Delgado won the German Open in Bonn and his fourth national championship. After a somewhat weaker in 2002 with a fifth place at the European Championship Delgado succeeded in March 2003 in Warsaw, his only victory in a World Cup tournament. Two months later, he lost the European Championship until the final against the Swiss Sergei Aschwanden. 2003 and 2004, Delgado won his fifth and sixth Portuguese title. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he was eliminated in the first round. His last big win was Delgado 2006, when he won the European Cup with the TSV Abensberg.
