Nurlat

Nurlat (Russian Нурлат; Tatar Норлат / Norlat ) is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia) with 32 601 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 270 km east of the Republic capital Kazan on the right bank of the Kondurtscha, a right tributary of the opening into the Volga Sok.

Nurlat the Republic is under the administrative right and also the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1914 Ulyanovsk- Tschischmy - Ufa.

History

In the 19th century the village was known to Nurlaty site of the present city. From 1905 came here with which to 1914 drawn-out construction of the railway line Simbirsk - Bugulma - Tschischmy ( Volga Bugulma Railroad ), a station settlement Nurlat.

The station received settlement in the 1930s, the status of an urban-type settlement and grew gradually with the village together. In 1961, the city charter was granted.

Culture and sights

In the village Kulbajewo - Marassa ( Rajon Nurlat ) opened in 1988 Gabdulla - Karijew Museum, dedicated to the locally born playwright, actor and co-founder of the Tatar National Theatre Gabdulla Karijew ( 1886-1920, actually Миңлебай Хәйрулла углы / Miñlebay Xäyrulla ugly ).

Economy

Main economic factor is the oil production in the area of the city by Tatneft (range Nurlatneft ) TatRITEKneft and Kondurtschaneft. There is also a machine factory and enterprises in the construction and food industry ( sugar factory, meat-packing ).
