Nanny Matilda (original Nurse Matilda ) is a three-part children's book series by British author Christianna Brand. The first book appeared in 1964, the German edition in 2005. The first volume was illustrated by Edward Ardizzone and translated by Beatrice Howeg.

Nanny Matilda is a (much like Mary Poppins ) magically gifted children girl who knocks one evening at the British Brown family at the door. The many children of Mr. and Mrs. Brown are very naughty and play pranks so happy that already announced countless nannies. As Nanny Matilda arrives, she turns out to be incredibly ugly person who teaches children manners by aufstampft with her magic walking stick, which brings the children to interact with their stupid not being able to stop just when they say "please". At the end of each book, the children have become like and nice, and Nanny Matilda leaves it up because the children do not need it now.
