Nuruosmaniye Mosque

The Nuruosmaniye Mosque ( Turkish Nuruosmaniye Camii ) is a mosque in Istanbul, near the eastern entrance to the Grand Bazaar. The construction of the " light of the house Mosque Osman " was given by Mahmut I in 1748 and commissioned in 1755 under Osman III. completed. Under a large dome (26 m diameter) five rows of windows making it light and airy interior. She was the first mosque of Istanbul in the Ottoman Baroque style. It was built by the otherwise unknown architect Simeon Kalfa. The name " Nuruosmaniye " ( Light of Osman ) refers in part to the name of the Sultan, under which it was completed, and on the other on the 24th sura of the Quran (Al -Nur, The Light ), the inside of the dome is shown.

The mosque is part of a larger complex that includes a madrasa, a library, a soup kitchen and a tomb in the form of a Türbe.

The Nuruosmaniye Camii has some architectural features that set it apart from typical Ottoman mosques bulk of previous times: striking are the corner towers, the horseshoe- shaped layout of the farm and the lack of a Şadırvans for ablution.
