Nuuk Posse

Nuuk Posse is the first and most famous Greenlandic hip- hop group. The band, whose members are all Inuit, founded in 1985 and took its name in 1991 from Nuuk Posse. The texts of Nuuk Posse are written in the languages ​​Greenlandic ( Sisimiuter dialect), Danish and English.

Sussa Apinnagu was their first single released in 1991. 1994, her album NP on which all the instrumental tricks of the genre Hip- Hop can be seen. One further single, Indigenous Reality, 1996 was the album Kaataq. On the compilation The Best of International Hip Hop (2000) the band was represented by Uteqqippugut ( Back in Business ).

Most lyrics are from John Olsen, one of the six band members. Among the topics that will be shelled out, there are also serious as the alcohol abuse of indigenous Greenlanders. With its mix of traditional songs and modern hip -hop, the band wants to remind the young Greenlanders on their identity as Inuit.

In 1996, Nuuk Posse a National Cultural Award. In 2004 she was nominated as the " Ambassador of Truth" by the UN.
