Nuuksio-Nationalpark

The Nuuksio National Park (Finnish Nuuksion kansallispuisto, swedish Noux national park ) is one of 35 national parks in Finland. It is located northwest of the capital Helsinki on the territory of the municipalities of Espoo, Kirkkonummi and Vihti. Its name derives from Nuuksio, a district Espoo.

Founded in the Park 1994. He was gradually extended to include June 1, 2006 already 45 km ². The terrain is dominated by steep cliffs, forests, moors and lakes.

From Helsinki and Espoo out of the park can be easily reached by public transport. So, take bus 85 and 85A of Espoon keskus daily after Nuuksionpää and Kattila. There are three marked trails, further to find places and ways for grilling, camping, skiing and for berry and mushroom picking. There are also rented cabins.

The hallmark of the park is the European flying squirrel as a high population of this rare species is present here. Also dozens of other endangered and threatened species of animals, plants and fungi living in the park, such as the nightjar and the Woodlark.
