Nuwakot District

Nuwakot is one of 75 districts in Nepal. It lies on the Trishuli in the Bagmati Zone. In the 2001 census it had 288 478 inhabitants, in 2011 there were 277 471.

The district is named after the mountain village of Nuwakot and the fortress of the same name, built in the 18th century in Mallastil on the trade route between Tibet and Kathmandu, strategically above the town Bidur. Nuwakot is one of a total of 9 Ghorkafestungen Pritvi Narayan Shah and was up to his capture of Kathmandu in 1768, the capital of his empire.
