NWE No. 21

The NWE No. 21II, later 99 6001 is a 1939 -built narrow gauge steam locomotive for 1000 mm gauge, which is today the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways (HSB ) in use.

History

The locomotive is the only example built a projected series unifier hot steam locomotives with the axis sequences 1'C1 ', 1'D1 ' and 1'E1 ', the Nordhausen - Wernigerode Railway Company ( NWE ), the Gernrode - Harzgerode Railroad company and the South Harz Railway Company had to replace older less economical wet steam locomotives given at the company locomotive and waggon Krupp in order. By unifying as many parts of machines across the model ranges in the interest of cost-effective production, simplified and facilitated maintenance of spare parts and maintenance of locomotives should be usable. However, since the development order is not carried out by the German Reichsbahn and partly dissenting construction principles have been applied, it is not however a standard design in common parlance. Due to the outbreak of the Second World War but only the resulting prototype of the 1'C1' type 1939 was built by Krupp, the orders for more machines were canceled.

The prototype locomotive was acquired under the Bahnnurmmer 21II at the NWE in the plant ingredients and redrawn in 99 6001 after the takeover of NWE by the German Reichsbahn 1949. 1970 was the locomotive, the computer number 99 6001-4.

In 1956, the machine was initially at least helping out restationed of the Harzquerbahn to Selketalbahn, starting in 1961 then ever. After reconnection of the two routes 1983/1984 were made again inserts on the Harzquerbahn, such as the transport of the first scheduled passenger train between Gernrode via stairs to Hasselfelde on 3 June 1984.

Between 1991 and 1994 she did in green paint scheme with a 21 as the locomotive number momentarily service before Traditionszug, one consisting of historically pristine car special train, as the Malletlokomotiven to date, could not be adapted to the new compressed air brakes of the car. In addition, she provided outside the special train services from their service from the operation site Gernrode.

Technical Features

In the design and construction of the NWE 21II Krupp has largely made in contrast to the former design status of the Reichsbahn - unit locomotives of the weld, and the boiler use.

The three driven wheel sets are stored securely in a bar frame with 70 mm thickness cheeks. The two forward or trailing wheelsets are mounted radially swung each in a bissel.

The boiler is supplied by two steam jet pumps.

The two outside, due to restrictions imposed by the loading gauge mounted slightly inclined cylinder of the steam engine are controlled by a Heusingersteuerung Kuhn with shear loop. The first built-in piston valve of the type Schulz have been replaced later against Trofimoff - spool. These provide a better idling characteristics of the locomotive when the throttle is closed, as they pick up virtually eliminating the vapor pressure in and of itself occurring work of the cylinder as an air pump.

Together with the also approved for 50 km / h locomotives of Class 99.32 locomotive is one of the five approved with the highest speed limit in Germany narrow gauge steam locomotives.
