Nyaung Shwe

State

Nyaung Shwe ( Burmese: ) is a city in Myanmar, which had 1300 inhabitants in 1994. It is located in the Shan State, about 15 km south of Shwe - nyaung on a canal north of Inle Lake. Nyaung Shwe is so to speak the tourist gateway to Inle Lake. This includes not only hotels and restaurants, boat landings and the possibility to rent boats. Accessible Nyaung Shwe is the westerly of Shwe - nyaung airport in Heho.

Attractions

The Buddhist Shwe - yan- Pyay monastery was built in the late 19th century. A building made ​​entirely of teak and falls by its oval window. It is, inter alia, used for education of novices. The walls in addition to lying whitewashed stone buildings were originally painted and ( some with glass painting ) decorated with extensive glass mosaics, but this is not well preserved. There sits in about 1700 small niches each a small plaster Buddha.
