Nybrott (Larvik newspaper)

The Nybrott (literally: New Enlightenment) was a Norwegian newspaper, which was printed in Larvik in Vestfold.

Nybrot was founded on 9 September 1911 as a newspaper of Arbeiderpartiet. At first, she appeared weekly, then it is published two times a week, and from 1915 it was published every day. On 10 January 1921 she merged with the newspaper Bratsberg Democrats called henceforth Folkets Dagblad, which now functioned as a regional newspaper for the Telemark and Vestfold. The merger, however, was canceled on May 19, 1922. In 1926 Nybrot was renamed into the more modern Nybrott.

During the Second World War Nybrott was merged with the Ostland posts by decree of the National Socialists. The new newspaper called Larvik Dagblad and was issued between 1 July 1943 and 31 May 1945.

From 1970 Arne Tumyr was editor. A year later the newspaper was changed to a morning newspaper. Tumyr did change the newspaper to tabloid format, which was not introduced before 1983. In the same year, the newspaper broke away from the Labour Party. Despite support from the labor movement, the newspaper ran into financial difficulties, so that after the last issue of 18 August 1984, the publication had to be stopped.
