Nychthemeron

The term Nychthemeron or Nykthemeron (also Tagnacht; ancient Greek νυχθήμερον derived from νύξ nyx for "night" and ἡμέρα Hemera for " day " ) refers to a period of 24 consecutive hours, which usually refers to the section dusk to dusk, so from night and composed during the day. In the literature Tagnacht is used when the period can not be defined with the usual notion of " day " or should not be confused with the daylight.

Everyday language

In some Germanic languages, there is also an expression for the term in everyday language. Thus, a 24 -hour time interval is called in Germany also full or full day in Denmark and Norway it is called døgn (Danish dag = "tag"), dygn in Sweden and in the Netherlands etmaal. In this case, only the length and not the start or end of the period is defined.
