Polyamide

Fixed

Polycaprolactam ( polyamide-6, PA6, as Perlon trademark ) is a polymer from the group of polyamides. This polymer was synthesized by Paul Schlack ( IG Farben ) to the properties of nylon 6,6 without reproducing the existing production patent infringing.

Production

Polyamide 6 is produced by ring-opening polymerization of ε -caprolactam. The time required for chain initiation, bifunctional ω -aminocaproic acid is obtained from the hydrolytic ring opening of ε -caprolactam.

This reacts with caprolactam to form an amide bond to polycaprolactame.

Use

Polycaprolactame is better than synthetic fibers under the name of Perlon use.

A large cast ( PA6G ) and extruded ( PA6E ) components are manufactured from polycaprolactame ( PA6).

In addition, it is used as carrier material ( stationary phase) in the thin film and column chromatography.

Under the name " nylon 6 " ( PA6) is used due to the toughness and wear resistance in mechanical engineering for lightly loaded gears and screws, as well as because of the good sliding properties for heavily loaded bearings and plates.
