The tuberous water lily ( Nymphaea tuberosa ) is a perennial plant of the genus of water lilies (Nymphaea ) in the family Nymphaeaceae ( Nymphaeaceae ).

Description

The tuberous water lily is a perennial herbaceous plant. This aquatic plant grows in water depths of more than 40 centimeters. The rhizome is tuberous and easily detaching side shoots. The petiole has often brown-red stripes. The Schwimmblattspreite has a diameter of 12 to 38 centimeters is green below and has pointed basal lobes.

The individually standing, hermaphrodite flower has a diameter of 10 to 23 centimeters and swims or extends up to 15 inches from the water up. There are about 20 petals present. The scars disc has about 14 rays.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

Occurrence

The tuberous water lily comes in hot temperate to temperate eastern and central North America in lakes, ponds and slow-moving waters at altitudes of 100 to 400 meters in front.

Use

The tuberous water lily is rarely used as an ornamental plant in garden ponds. It's probably since 1865 in culture. There are some varieties.
