Nyrstar

Nyrstar is the world's largest producers of zinc and one of the largest manufacturers of primary lead.

History

Nyrstar was founded on 31 August 2007 by the merger of zinc smelting activities of the Belgian Umicore and the zinc and lead smelter activities of Australia's Zinifex.

On October 29, 2007, the trading of the Nyrstar was at the Euro next- Brussels stock exchange on a new issue. The company was on 4 March 2008 to 3 March 2009 and is listed again since 20 June 2011 at the stock index BEL 20.

Glencore bought so far the total zinc production of Nyrstar on to act and she is involved with eight per cent in the company. The European competition authorities approved the 2012 merger of Glencore and Xstrata under the condition that Glencore is separate from the investment.

Products

Nyrstar mainly produces zinc and lead alloys. Zinc alloys are used in industry for galvanizing steel parts ( continuous strip galvanizing, hot-dip galvanizing ) and for the production of zinc die casting. Lead is used primarily for the production of batteries.

Production sites

Production facilities in Australia (Hobart, Port Pirie ), Belgium ( Balen, Overpelt ), France ( Auby in the Nord and Le Vigeant Vienne département ), Netherlands ( Budel ) and the U.S. ( Clarksville ). In addition, joint ventures exist in Australia, China and France. Nyrstar is also unitholder ( 24.9 %) of Padaeng Industry Public Company Limited in Thailand.
