Nzérékoré

Nzérékoré, with about 135,000 inhabitants, the second largest city of Guinea and capital of the region and prefecture Nzérékoré.

Nzérékoré is located in the geographic region in southeastern Guinea Guinea forest, near the borders with Liberia and the Ivory Coast. The Nzérékoré region borders in addition to Sierra Leone. Because of the civil wars in neighboring countries, many refugees live in the region; in the 1990s, these were more than 100,000, in November 2004, it was under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 73,000, of which a further 10,000 returning until the end of 2005 in their home countries. The UNHCR has an office in the city Nzérékoré.
