O angenehme Melodei, BWV 210a

O pleasant melody ( BWV 210a ) is a homage cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed the solo cantata for soprano Leipzig in 1729 as a tribute music for Christian of Saxe- Weissenfels and led them to two more times.

History and words

The cantata is one of Bach's repertoire of congratulation and homage cantatas. He composed it in Leipzig for Christian of Saxe- Weissenfels the occasion of his visit to the fair city and performed it on January 12, 1729 for the first time on. In 1739 he dedicated it to a slightly altered text Joachim Friedrich von Flemming ( 1665-1740 ), the Governor of Leipzig, later patrons of science and art; therefore it is also called " sponsors cantata". From the cantata is the soprano voice only receive, and also the original of which was lost during the Second World War. Since Bach used the cantata for its perfectly preserved wedding cantata O holder Tag, desired time, they could be reconstructed from it. Bach took over all five arias, the first recitative and the beginning of the last recitative in the wedding cantata. Alexander Ferdinand Grychtolik got a reconstruction of the sponsors cantata, which was published in 2008 by Edition Güntersberg.
