O-Jay

O- Jay ( * February 15, 1965 in Berlin; actually Olaf Jeglitza ) is a German songwriter, record producer and rapper. He is also co-founder and intermittently frontman of the band Real McCoy.

Biography

O -Jay was born in Berlin in 1965. After completion of the Elementary and junior high school, he learned to play 16 the photography at the Vocational School for Design, the Lette-Verein in Berlin. At 18, he worked as a freelance photo designer, two years later, he was first assistant and later head of the photography department at a Berlin advertising agency.

Since 1980, O -Jay was involved in the emerging at this time Berlin hip - hop movement as a break dancer and called himself The Mighty crash. Later he co-founded the Imperial Nation Berlin. Along with Frank " Quickmix " Hassa he published in 1986 the first German hip-hop fanzine Fresh Beat magazine and produced the Fresh Line radio show. In 1988 he founded, also with Quickmix, the label Fresh Line Records.

1983-1987

In 1983, O- Jay produced the short film Just an illusion as part of a thesis during his training at the Lette -Verein. The following year, 1984, it came to collaborate on another film project with the German producer and musician Jens Kuphal. Began in 1985 with the Berlin O -Jay D. J. To work Quickmix. First, the two gave themselves the name 2 MakeMusic. 1987 their release of their first record We Wanna Be Stars ( Master Plan). It was the first publication of a German artist in the U.S. hip- hop label Select Records (distributed by SPV ). 1988-1992

1988 Master Plan dissolved and Quickmix and O -Jay founded the hip-hop electro group The Alliance. Their first production action! was released on their own label Fresh Line Records. In cooperation with the Berlin 99 sales records they were able to sell about 20,000 units. This first chart success came in 1990 then to a new label deal between the newly founded Fresh Line Records Music Production GmbH and ZYX. Quickmix and O -Jay founded the Fresh Line GmbH together with the owner of a small Berliner Studios ( Jürgen Wind ), had already recorded their first demo in the Master Plan Quickmix and O -Jay.
