Đỗ Mười

DJO Muoi ( Hán nom杜梅; born February 2, 1917 in Dong My) is a Vietnamese politician. He was from 1991 to 1997 General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV ).

DJO Muoi, the son of a North Vietnamese peasant family came in 1939 with the Communist Party of Indochina. In 1941 he was sentenced by the French colonial authorities to ten years imprisonment. After he escaped from prison Hoa Lo, he nam 1945 his illegal activities in the position of First Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Hai Dong again. In 1951, he was First Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ta Ngan zone, 1955, First Secretary of the City Party Committee of Haiphong. DJO Muoi was a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPV since 1960 Member of the Central Committee since 1982.

Since 1960 DJO Muoi also worked in various government functions: first as Minister for Trade, from 1969 as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and from 1973 as Minister of Construction.

After 35 years in government service DJO Muoi was elected in June 1988 as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (until 1991 ). In this role, he became increasingly a symbol of the conservative forces in the ruling class.

( 24 to 27 June 1991) On the Seventh National Congress of the CPV, there was a comprehensive personnel change: Djo Muoi was chosen as the successor to the then 75 -year-old Nguyễn Văn Linh General Secretary of the CPV. In this election, seven of the 12 members of the ruling Politburo were replaced, and the like took place in the Central Committee of the Party. How Nguyễn also joined DJO for market reforms without fundamental change in the political system, a ( Đổi mới reforms ).

Party officials stressed that Nguyễn resigned for health reasons and was not removed against his will. DJO Muoi joined with 80 years in retirement.
