O Rosal

O Rosal ( official name in Galician language, Spanish El Rosal ) is a Spanish municipality of the comarca of O Baixo Miño in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia.

Economy

The economic picture of O Rosal is dominated by agriculture and forestry and coastal fishing. The community is known for its wines, which belong to the denomination of the Rías Baixas.

History

In O Rosal cave paintings of the Paleolithic era, as well as traces of the Bronze Age were found. The so-called Castro culture dominated the region.

During the Middle Ages O Rosal belonged to the Cistercian monastery of Santa María la Real de Oia.

1847, the local government was established, which meant the official elimination of A Guarda. 1879 gave Alfonso XII. O Rosal the municipal law.
