O. Panneerselvam

O. Panneerselvam (Tamil: .. ஓ பன்னீர்செல்வம் Ō Paṉṉīrcelvam [ i ː r ˌ ː pan selʋʌm ]; born January 14, 1951 in Periyakulam ) is an Indian politician of the Dravida Munnetra party All India Anna Kazhagam ( AIADMK ) from the state of Tamil Nadu. Since 2011 he has been Minister of Finance of the State. Between September 2001 and February 2002, he held the post of Chief Minister in the short term ( Government) of Tamil Nadu.

Biography

O. Panneerselvam was born on January 14, 1951 in the city of Periyakulam in Theni district in southern Tamil Nadu. He is Hindu and belongs to the Thevar caste, which is numerically well represented in southern Tamil Nadu. His training included Panneerselvam with a Bachelor of Arts. By profession he is a farmer. Panneerselvam is married and has three children.

His political career began O. Panneerselvam in local politics. From 1996 to 2001 he was mayor of his hometown Periyakulam. In 2001 he was first elected to the AIADMK in the Parliament of Tamil Nadu. In the following elections in 2006 and 2011, he made the re-entry. Although he possessed as a Parliament newbie no more political experience, he was awarded in May 2001 in the Cabinet of Prime Minister J. Jayalalithaa the important office of the Finance Minister. Internal party he was considered a protégé of Jayalalithaas confidant Sasikala Natarajan, which exercised considerable influence on the Jayalalithaa government behind the scenes.

In September 2001 the Supreme Court declared the inauguration Jayalalithaas invalid because she was convicted of corruption, and put her down as head of government. As the new Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam surprising was determined. With the inexperienced Panneerselvam Jayalalithaa chose a loyal followers without their own power base in the Party, thus their claim to power could not threaten. For the rest of the legislature Panneerselvam took over the office of the Minister of Public Works, Prohibition, Excise and tax revenues. With the dismissal of the AIADMK government at the 2006 election he lost his ministerial post back. After the AIADMK was returned to power in the 2011 parliamentary elections, Jayalalithaa Panneerselvam summoned again as finance minister in her cabinet.
