The O2 World Hamburg (until April 13, 2010 Color Line Arena ) is a multi-purpose arena for sporting and cultural events in Hamburg. It is located in Bahr field area in the immediate vicinity of the football stadium Imtech Arena (formerly Volksparkstadion, AOL Arena and HSH Nordbank Arena ) and the new Volksbank Arena. It is one of the most modern arenas in Europe.

Opened on 8 November 2002 hall is 150 meters long, 110 meters wide and has a height of 33 meters. The maximum capacity of the Hall is 16,000 visitors, at sporting events by eliminating the interior seats 13,000. The building cost was around 83 million euros. Was financed the construction of the stadium by the Finnish entrepreneur Harry Harkimo and of the city of Hamburg, the Harkimo sold the land for a symbolic price of one mark and as a preparatory measure for 12 million marks (about 6.1 million euros ) infrastructure improvements allowed to run. In October 2007, the hall for an estimated 75 million euros was sold to the Anschutz Entertainment Group.

Use

The O2 World Hamburg is Hamburg's Hockey Team Hamburg Freezers and the handball team HSV Hamburg as the venue for their home games. The annual Final Four of the DHB Cup is also held here. 2007 were held in the arena a few games of the Handball World Championship. On November 16, 2005 November 13, 2009 and 2nd November 2012 World Wrestling Entertainment guested with the "Survivor Series Tour " in the Arena, the first event was rather poorly attended, and the latter was almost sold out, with 14,000 spectators.

In the Hall also regularly hosts concerts of all genres, as it provides significant acoustic advantages over the old Sporthalle Hamburg.

Throughout the hockey season, there is a sheet of ice in the interior. For concerts, Hand ball games and other events where no ice is needed to cover these within a short time with insulation.

History

To location, concept, operators and realizing there was a decades- long dispute. As one of the concessions politics was as the site of the arena a location chosen just above the particle accelerator DESY, which had to be re-adjusted by the change in applied load. On 13 June 2001 the foundation stone was laid for the arena took place. It was named Arena officially on 8 November 2001 by the Norwegian ferry operator Color Line. In March 2002, they celebrated topping and was officially opened on 8 November 2002 the Color Line Arena with a concert by Wonderwall, Sasha and Phil Collins. Udo Lindenberg celebrated in the arena on 13 February 2004 with his Panikorchester its 30th anniversary on stage. From this concert a double DVD has been released. The Böhse Onkelz recorded on 5 October 2004 in the sold out hall, the double CD " Live in Hamburg " and so documented their farewell tour. The concert was also the last concert of the band hall.

On 13 April 2010 the Anschutz Entertainment Group and Telefónica Germany announced the renaming of the Arena at O2 World Hamburg. It is thus after the O2 World Berlin the second after the mobile operator O2 named event hall in Germany and the fifth in Europe. The partnership between the two companies is fixed at ten years. In addition, the modernization and an extension to the arena are planned.

Transport links

The arena lacks a direct connection to the Hamburg- speed rail network. The nearest stations are the S-Bahn stations and Eidelstedt Stellingen in about 1200 or 1500 meters. From Stellingen out during events shuttle buses directly to the arena. To the road network, the arena is served by the exit Hamburg - public park of the Federal Highway 7.
