Oakdale is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located in Washington County located and has approximately 26,700 inhabitants.
Geography
Oakdale is part of the metropolitan Minneapolis -Saint Paul in the Midwestern United States. The city is situated about twelve kilometers northeast of St. Paul and 24 kilometers east of Minneapolis. According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of the city is 29.2 square miles, of which 0.5 square miles of water.
History
The area around Oakdale was settled in 1848. As Township was organized in 1858 and had a size of 36 square miles. In the 20th century, areas of the Oakdale Township were repeatedly separated and formed independent localities ( Lake Elmo 1926, East Oakdale 1951 Landfall 1959 Northdale 1959). 1969 formed the Northdale Township, part of East Oakdale Oakdale together with a Village. 1974 Oakdale received city rights.

The Interstate Highway 694 runs through Oakdale and is crossed to the south by Interstate 94. Important major roads are also the Minnesota State Route 5 and 36
Nearest airports are the Lake Elmo Airport and the St. Paul Downtown Airport. The Minneapolis -Saint Paul International Airport is located approximately 22 kilometers southwest of the city.
