Oan Schylge

Oan Schyle is the anthem of the Dutch island of Terschelling. The text was written by Jacob Sijbrands Bakker in the Frisian dialect of the capital of West Terschelling in the 19th century. " Schyle " is the name of Terschelling in the Frisian island dialect, and " Oan Schyle " means " to Terschelling ." The poem was first published in the journal " Swanneblummen " 1855. The origin of the melody is unclear: It may have been composed by Hendrik Rotgans (1851-1910), but it could also be a much older folk song. Today mostly sung only the first and the last verse.
