Obama Cabinet

January 20, 2009 Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States.

Composition

The majority of cabinet members are Democrats. Four original members of the Cabinet were non-Party people: Timothy Geithner, Robert Gates, Steven Chu and Eric Shinseki. Robert Gates, who retired from his post July 1, 2011, was already in the cabinet of George W. Bush from December 18, 2006 Secretary of Defense.
