Obed Asamoah

Obed Yao Asamoah ( b. 1936 ) is a leading politician of Ghana. During the reign of Jerry Rawlings, he held the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

Career

Asamoah was first during the military junta and later under President Rawlings Rawlings (since 1992) Foreign Minister of Ghana. He was the Minister with the longest tenure.

Asamoah was also Minister of Justice and Attorney General in 1994 as acting during the first term of office as President under Rawlings. He also has held this office in the entire second term of office between 1997 and 2001.

Asamoah has become chairman of the newly founded in 2006 Democratic Party Freedom Party. Previously, he had since 2002 as the successor of the party Rawlings presidency of the party National Democratic Congress held. There have been rumors in 2006 that saw Asamoah as a presidential candidate in the elections in 2008. Asamoah has denied these rumors and said that he would support his party in the election campaign for the taking place in the same year parliamentary elections, but are not available even as a candidate for the office of President of Ghana are available.
