Oberbalm

Oberbalm is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Oberbalm is located in a pre-Alpine hills region between Berne and Black Castle. The lowest point is at about 650 m above sea level. M. Scherl on Ibach, where the community is adjacent to its main neighboring village Oberscherli in the community Köniz, the highest point to 987 m above sea level. M. near the border with the neighboring community Niedermuhlern. In addition to the actual village core also includes the south part of the village located Borisried to Oberbalm.

Economically Oberbalm is marked to be heavily agricultural. The majority of farms are located and agricultural infrastructure enterprises ( dairy ).

Traffic

About roads Oberbalm is well connected with the surrounding larger towns and the city of Bern. In addition, the village is connected by postal car to the regional network of public transport.

Arts, culture, education

In Oberbalm ( rock music ) will take place the Openair Festival Outdoor moose each summer on the Balmberg. Oberbalm has a primary school.

The Church of St. Sulpitius located in the village center Oberbalms. Of particular interest are the frescoes from the period 1470-1480, which are located on the walls of the nave. In addition, old wolf nets are preserved in the church.

In Oberbalm are three old farm buildings that have been added to the list of cultural goods of national importance: a farmhouse ( Stöckli 203) and two memory ( Horbermatt 114 Oberbalmstrasse 209 A).
