Oberhaag is a municipality with 2224 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Leibnitz district in the Austrian state of Styria. The name derives from Haag, an enclosed area, from.

Geography

Oberhaag located in Saggautal between Eibiswald and Arnfels in Styria. Five kilometers of the municipal boundary is also the state border with Slovenia.

History

For the first time, the area around Oberhaag was mentioned in a document in which the high free Reinbertus of Muorekke ( Mureck ) goods " in superiori hage " ( Oberhaag ) the monastery of St. Paul in the Lavant Valley is dedicated. The numerous castle stables "in the hague " had become free farms and residences of so-called " A - Shield Knights ", which at that time represented the political administration of the country.

Among the brothers of Kohlberg 1170 (now a district of Oberhaag ) mentioned in a Leibnitzer parish certificate, in cases where the parishes of St. John called in Saggautal and Eibiswald, that belonged to the mother parish of Leibnitz. The local church as autonomous bodies was 1850. 1878 only Oberhaag was solved by Arnfels and raised to an independent municipality.
