Oberiberg is a municipality in the district of Schwyz in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It lies on the Ibergereggstrasse between Einsiedeln and Schwyz.

History

The area around Iberg called by the locals " S'Ibrig ", takes its name from the yew. Emperor Henry II donated it to the monastery of Einsiedeln in 1018. Later it came into the possession of the municipality of Schwyz, used it as a summer pasture. The region was heavily wooded and only converted between the 16th and 19th centuries by deforestation in large pasture areas. Lived in the early 20th century, the population to be almost exclusively from the Alpine economy, Oberiberg was soon discovered as a health resort and tourism began an important source of livelihood for the community. 1938 ski lift was built ( only the third in the whole of Switzerland ).
