Geography

Obermehler is twelve kilometer ( distance) northeast of the county town of Mühlhausen / Thuringia. The village consists of three hamlets: Upper Mehler, Großmehlra and Pöthen.

Geologically, the town in the northwest of the vent Heimer trench, at the interface of the Thuringian Basin to Südostabdachung of fertilizer. Popularly Roderwald, an extensive forest area west of the local situation Obermehler, is the highest point of the municipality ( 364.1 m above sea level. NN ). History

The first mention refers to operations which included the Lords of Mehler, whose aristocratic residence was east of Upper Mehler. Großmehlra belonged from 1324 to 1918 the Principality of Schwarzburg- Sondershausen. Obermehler was 1645-1918 a place in the duchy of Saxe-Gotha.

Churches

In the local situation Obermehler is the Romanesque choir tower church of St. Ulrich 's Church from the 12th century, in Großmehlra is the St. Vitus Church, in turn, a choir tower church, built as a simple rectangular building with an east tower, whose construction date could still fall in Romanesque period. The present nave was built in 1913 as a rectangular building with pitched roof. Both churches are part of the parish Menteroda the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Central Germany.

Pits
